Jeremy Clevenger became the fifth head coach in Idaho soccer history in July of 2018, bringing more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to the Vandals. He enters his seventh season at Idaho.
Clevenger made history with the Vandals women's soccer team leading them to the NCAA first round for the first time ever. Idaho's season ended with a 1-0 loss at Gonzaga, facing the No. 15 offensive team in the nation. Idaho punched their ticket to the NCAA's with a 2-1 win over NAU in the Big Sky Conference Championship hosted by the Lumberjacks. Clevenger made history in another sense, becoming the winningest coach in Idaho women's soccer history with win No. 51 against NAU on October 22, 2023. He has since extended his number of wins to 53. The team finished with a record of 12-5-2 overall and 5-2-1 in conference. Under Clevenger, eight Vandals earned Big Sky All-Conference accolades highlighted by Kira Witte with her second-straight Goalkeeper of the Year honor and Alyssa Peters as Co-Defensive MVP. Peters was joined by Jayd Sprague and Jadyn Hanks on the first team followed by Rebekah Reyes, Cassidy Elicker, Witte, and Margo Schoesler on the second team and Hannah Alfaro with an honorable mention. The 2018 season got out to a slow start, with back-to-back losses on the road to start the season. The Vandals took some time to acclimate to Clevenger’s system, but bounced back with a 3-1 win over Grambling State in the home-opener. The biggest win of the nonconference schedule came in the final weekend when the Vandals traveled to Seattle U and defeated the Redhawks, 3-2, in overtime. The overtime win was the first for the Vandals in more than six years.
Despite being picked seventh in the preseason coaches’ poll, the Vandals finished Big Sky play at 6-1-2 and earned the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky Tournament. Six student-athletes earned All-Big Sky recognition, including Kelly Dopke and Myah Merino with First Team honors. Dopke was also named the Big Sky Defensive Most Valuable Player, while Makayla Presgrave was tabbed as the co-Goalkeeper of the Year.
The team set a handful of team records on the year, including fewest goals allowed (19) and best home winning percentage (.929). The team finished unbeaten at home for the third time in the last four years, and was the only team in the nation to not give up a goal from the run of play at home. The squad continued to improve throughout the year, and closed the season with a program record five consecutive shutouts. Idaho did not concede a goal in the entire month of October.
In his first season with Idaho, Clevenger helped lead the Vandals to their best RPI since 2015, as the team peaked at No. 113 after the non-conference schedule. The team finished with nine wins, more than twice as many as any other first year coach in team history.
Clevenger joined the program after two seasons at Northern Iowa. While there, the Panthers saw unprecedented success, setting a number of program records along the way. The Panthers advanced to the MVC Tournament Championship game with a pair of shutout wins along the way.
His first season at UNI was also a tremendous success. The Panthers had their highest conference finish in program history at the time, while also setting then-team records for goals, points and shutouts.
Prior to UNI, Clevenger spent four seasons as the head coach of Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. There, Clevenger started the program, and quickly led the team to national prominence with wins over ranked Division II opponents.
